A modern teen bedroom

My latest project is finally complete and I'm in love with it!  I had the pleasure of working with a very fun family who I applaud for trusting me when I suggested painting an accent wall black - a decision we are all thrilled with.

My client is a 16 year old girl who describes herself as "not-girly".  Here is the before pic of the room which was decorated when she was a baby.  She was definitely ready to have a more grown up space that matched her modern sensibility.

Project highlights include removing all the existing wallpaper, trim and enlarging her tiny closet to twice the size, adding new contemporary sliding doors with tiny black pulls along with a clean white Elfa closet system from the Container Store.  We painted the main bed wall a rich flat black and used a chalky warm white for the other walls, ceiling and trim.  This created a crisp foundation that allowed us to decorate with bright colorful accessories.

Danish modern dresser & Calder art print

Linen headboard & geometric pillows

Wall-mount modern bookshelf for school books

Pompoms drapes & a modern ceramic vase

What I love about the room is that while it has a youthful vibe - the furnishing are timeless and ageless pieces that can grow with her over time.  The danish modern dresser and patterned kilim rug are great examples of the texture and depth that vintage elements lend to the room.

Adding pom poms to white canvas drapes also carry the pattern in the art and add a feminine touch without being too girly.  For more pics check out my Interiors portfolio or see the project on Houzz!
